Against the hillside (on the right)
stood a large two story stone barn. The barn housed draft
animals on the first floor and feed on the second. A road
actually led up the bank to the second floor. Out in the
meadow (left & top of the image) were several other
barns, wagon sheds and a blacksmith shop. Draft animals were
a very important part of life in the ironworks village. All
the materials coming and going from the village were hauled
in wagons by oxen, mules and horses.
